On the night of June 29, Chongqing was boiling hot—literally. So our family decided to "self-heat" by going out for barbecue.
Since it was too hot to travel far, we picked a BBQ spot close to home.
As soon as we arrived, doubts crept in. The menu was painfully limited, portions were fit for fairies, and prices were floating high like real estate.
Just as we were debating a quick escape, the owner greeted us with a smile warmer than the grill. Out of politeness, we sat down reluctantly.
Our hands trembled ordering, and our mouths couldn’t stop muttering while eating: “This is too little,” “Tastes so-so,” “Kinda overpriced,” “We’re never coming back!”
The whole family was roasting the meal harder than the grill was roasting the meat.
And the kicker? The boss was sitting right next to us, smiling and listening the whole time!
I whispered while stuffing meat into my mouth: “Just eat enough to fill up, then we find another place. Don’t let the boss hear—what if he flips the table?”
That meal? It was part BBQ, part suspense thriller.
